Social Impact

Levelling the Playing Field – Internship Programme

Our interns are care experienced, and work with us for 6 months. They support Simpact and our clients on a range of projects designed to help them identify future career options. Our objective is to deliver the best internship programme in the UK for care leavers.

Our programme of support
for our interns includes:

  • Work full-time hours at London Living Wage

  • Provided with a home working set-up package which includes a laptop, desk and chair, which they keep at the end of the internship

  • Reporting directly into the CEO

  • Working with Directors and Associates on client accounts, to enhance their networks and social capital which they can take forward at the end of the programme

  • A professional package worth £1000, for which they are allocated 10 hrs per week of their working week

  • Access a qualified social worker (employed by Simpact) to offer pastoral support whenever they need it, alongside a referral pathway to specialist counselling support

  • Support to find permanent employment at the end of the programme

Programme Impact

“Simpact are incredible. The team/work model provided me with the time, confidence & support to grow into who I am already after just one month working here as a Marketing and Sales Intern. 3 months ago I couldn’t even feed myself as a struggling care leaver, but with Simpact and the team's guidance, I can finally see a sustainable future ahead of me.”

Breaking Ground and Forward
Motion Programmes

From 2016 to 2019 we delivered our education engagement programmes to over 250 young people across the South West of England, mixing classroom based activity with dance classes and conservation projects. Our 16 week Forward Motion (dance focused) and Breaking Ground (conservation focused) courses, have - in conjunction with our partner schools - transformed the behaviour of participants; helping previously disengaged young people re-engage and be able to look to the future with confidence. We spent six months designing, testing and re-working the programmes, to ensure they were as relevant and engaging as they could be and would have the desired impact. We constantly reviewed and re-worked modules from the programme (in consultation with schools and participants) to ensure we consistently deliver the best service and crucially, one where young people have been able to influence its design and content.

“We are seeing a change and a much more settled year group.  Thank you for everything you are doing, it is making school better not just for them but for everyone in their class and us.

“The Forward Motion programme is an innovative provision that has successfully motivated our year 9 students. Our boys have flourished under the expert and skilled Simpact team members’ guidance and both individual and collective successes are evident, measurable and can be articulated by the students themselves. The team deliver a provision that captures the interests of the most disaffected learners irrespective of any additional needs.  It is a pleasure to work with such committed, passionate professionals. I recommend them without hesitation.”

“I have witnessed first hand the diverse ways that the Simpact team persuade young people who are at risk of being excluded back into the classroom.  The hunger, vision, and relevance that these professionals have enables them to instil the skills and confidence young people need, so they can make better life choices.  Their staff have delivered a range of continual professional development opportunities for our lecturers.  Simpact are an incredibly caring organisation and place the learner at the heart of everything they do. I have no hesitation in recommending them!”
